AUSTIN, TX / EL SEGUNDO, CA—Feb. 22, 2023, Slingshot Aerospace, Inc., a company building data, simulation, and analytics products to make space operations safer, announces CEO and Cofounder, Melanie Stricklan, has been nominated for the most prestigious award in the satellite industry, Via Satellite’s 2022 Satellite Executive of the Year Award. The nominees are chosen for durable contributions made to the global satellite market including innovative technologies, best practices, important services, or any combination of these. Likewise, it recognizes lasting contributions of their achievements.
Under Stricklan's leadership, Slingshot Aerospace experienced exceptional growth in 2022, exceeding expectations by more than doubling its revenue and expanding its customer base globally to include clients in the commercial, defense, and private space sectors. The company secured two oversubscribed funding rounds, totaling $65.45 million, and made two strategic acquisitions, Numerica's Space Domain Awareness division and UK-based Seradata. The acquisitions connect an unparalleled Global Sensor Network, for day/night tracking of satellites and debris, and the industry’s most authoritative space object database with Slingshot’s Digital Space Twin™ platform to create the industry’s most comprehensive view of the space operating domain. As part of Slingshot’s mission to promote coordination and collaboration among space operators, the company made its Slingshot Beacon "air traffic control for space" product available to the global space community for free.
In addition to her role at Slingshot, Stricklan serves on two prestigious organizations guiding the future of safe space operations. She was appointed to the National Space Council’s Users Advisory Group by Vice President Kamala Harris and named to the Federal Aviation Administration's Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee by U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
Stricklan also played a crucial role in establishing and continuing to champion the Space Workforce 2030 Pledge, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at significantly enhancing diversity and equity for underrepresented groups in the aerospace industry. Today, the pledge has been adopted by several dozen aerospace companies.
The winner of the 2022 Satellite Executive of the Year will be determined by a combination of the Via Satellite editorial team and votes that come directly from industry. The public can vote for Melanie Stricklan online.
"I am deeply honored to be nominated as a 2022 Satellite Executive of the Year by Via Satellite, and I share this recognition with our entire team at Slingshot Aerospace,” said Stricklan. “It is their dedication and hard work that has propelled us on our mission to create a more sustainable and safer space operating domain. There is tremendous momentum in the space industry and I’m honored to be included amongst so many incredible leaders who are making a huge impact in the way we operate in orbit.”
“The Satellite Executive of the Year award remains the most prestigious individual award in our industry. It has been running since 1988 and has seen a wide spectrum of winners across all different parts of the industry,” said Mark Holmes, Sr. Editorial Director of Via Satellite. “The award is the past, the present and the future wrapped in one, and the winner joins a club of people that spans multiple decades and eras.”
